Stars appear on the jumbo tron. A sweet little synth-based tune plays through the speakers. 15 seconds later a girl pops out from under the entrance stage, balloons in hand, wearing a white two-piece outfit covered in puzzle pieces with many colors. The date is April 23rd, 2023, and her name is Mei Seira, who has returned to the ring after 612 days away from the ring. Mei started her career in Marvelous under her real name Mei Hoshizuki in 2018, and up until 2021 was making appearances in WAVE, SEAdLINNNG, Diana, Sendai Girls, and even 4 matches in Stardom. After almost 2 years of absence, Mei is back and has been doing the best work of her career, and is now the High Speed titleholder. Allow me to show you what makes Mei Seira so special.

The Look

Just from eyeing Mei, you can tell who she is as a character. Her gear consists of a white two-piece set with a chrome and colorful belt, tassels, a red zipper, and puzzle piece decorations strewn about. Her hair is a brown bob with blonde strands and bangs. She is very well known to have wrist tape with designs and messages added to them by her. The physical presentation of Mei fits incredibly well with her personality and is visually striking.

The Personality

As I stated previously, Mei’s gear is an indicator of what her personality is like. Mei is a positive person, spreading happiness to anyone she comes into contact with, unless it’s her feet connecting with your jaw. She is playful, as she isn’t afraid to be thrown onto countless opponents by Megan Bayne and focus her offense on Waka Tsukiyama’s backside. She has friendships with much of the Stardom roster, including her mini stable with Suzu Suzuki and Maika called Small, Medium, and Large. It is well documented on Mariah May’s twitter the story of how they became friends, and it is hilarious.

The Matches

Having consistently great matches is a hard feat for a pro wrestler, and yet Mei does it like it’s second nature. Even from her first match back teaming with Starlight Kid to face AZM and Mei Suruga, you could tell she has the ability to still go after her absence. Her tag team matches with Suzu Suzuki and Maika have been some of the most entertaining portions of any given show. Any of her 3 title matches since her return are worth every second to go out and watch.

The Victory She Needed

On October 9th of this year, Mei Seira was granted a match against Saki Kashima for the High Speed Championship. After a fun 6-minute bout, Mei Seira was able to catch Saki in a pin to claim her first title in Stardom. You can ask anyone here on this website what my reaction to her victory was, and they will tell you the same thing: “Jarboe was elated”. This felt like a massive victory for those paying attention to her career, as this wasn’t her first championship, but it most certainly is the most important one she has held in terms of her story and where she is now. I’ve been following her career for a while, before her hiatus, when she was a staple of Marvelous and its younger generation of talent. This one single victory was a confirmation of sorts that there is so much worth putting energy and passion into those you love dearly.

Where Does She Go From Here?

Now that she is the High Speed champ and is destined for a bright future, what does that said future entail? It’s up to Mei Seira herself to carve out her legacy in wrestling, and I can always hope she can eventually reach the top of the world. I truly believe she would be an integral Wonder Of Stardom champion and I would love to see her win the tag titles with either Maika or Suzu, so I hope she continues her journey and makes herself the name I personally see her as already.
